The beginning of December marks the beginning of holiday celebrations, and what better way to get in the spirit than by incorporating the most festive flavor into your meals? That being said, here are some of the best ways to get your peppermint fix this season.
Peppermint Bark
Senior government and politics major Ireland Lesley is a huge fan of this peppermint staple.
“We have a family friend who makes them every holiday season, and it’s been a long-standing tradition to trade sweets with them. It always feels like Christmas when we get this peppermint bark,” said Lesley.
Peppermint bark is a holiday classic and does not require too much baking time. So crush those candy canes, and get cooking!

Chocolate Chip Peppermint Cookies
Chocolate chip cookies are a standard snack for any time of the year, but this is a fun twist on a basic recipe. Make them the same way you would any other chocolate chip cookie, but add crushed candy canes into the dough before rolling it into balls to bake.
It is a simple added flair to make the snack more appropriate for the holidays. Make them for a dessert table, or use them as a snack during finals by putting a few in a sandwich bag to have on-the-go.

Peppermint Hot Chocolate
One of the best ways to keep warm during the cold months is by drinking hot chocolate. But, if you want to add a different flavor, try peppermint hot chocolate.
Junior communications major Alex Romano said this is her favorite hot drink.
“My family would make it every winter growing up, and even at college I make sure to get it if I’m in the mood for a hot chocolate at a coffee shop,” Romano said.
If you do not have the means to make this yourself, heading to Starbucks to get your fix is always an easy option.

Peppermint Oreo Cookie Balls
Sophomore government and politics major Anna Smillie has been making these with her family for as long as she can remember.
“When my whole family comes over for Christmas, it’s the most popular dessert we set out. Everyone goes crazy for them,” Smillie said.
This recipe combines delicious Oreo’s with the extra flavor of crushed candy canes and cream cheese, all rolled and frozen into a ball. Who could say no to that?

Red Velvet Peppermint Thumbprints
These tasty handhelds bear a resemblance to peanut butter kiss cookies, but instead of peanut butter, the cookie is made out of red velvet mix, and instead of a Hershey Kiss on top, they are topped with icing and chopped candy canes.
These savory cookies are sure to catch the eye of any houseguest during the holidays, and the cookies are a great addition to an early holiday dinner with friends before leaving campus for winter break.
