Herbal teas have been used for thousands of years as remedies, are valued by many different cultures and are widely known for their countless benefits. With so many options, there is probably a tea out there that claims to help whatever health or energy issue you may have. From easing stress to alleviating menstrual cramps, there seems to be an herbal tea for every situation.

Keep in mind, however, that known herbs can help with certain symptoms you may be having, but seeking advice from a professional herbalist will give you the most effective combination of herbs that can make you feel better in whichever way you may desire.

Herbalist Donna Koczaja based in Laurel said that most herbalists use a combination of herbs rather than one specific herb to create the best healing effect.

With that said, there are many herbs that can be used in teas that can alleviate a number of symptoms, which are listed below.

Sleeping Trouble due to Stress or Pain

Koczaja explained that when it comes to trouble with sleeping, one must look at the reason for that lack of sleep in order to find a useful herbal tea to take before bed. For example, if you are suffering from stress, a calming herb such as scullcap would be good to look at, according to Koczaja.

If the reason for your trouble sleeping is because of pain, Koczaja suggests California Poppy Seed, as she says it will help alleviate that pain.

Digestive Issues

Lindsey Bomgren, owner of lifestyle and fitness blog Nourish Move Love, said she loves drinking chamomile and lavender tea before bed, as it is both calming and helps her with digestion. Bomgren is 15 weeks pregnant and has been recently drinking mint and ginger teas to help with her nausea.

Menstrual Issues and Cramps

For serious menstrual issues, it is important to seek professional help, but for less intense symptoms, there are herbs that help balance hormones and alleviate period cramps.

Cramp Bark does exactly what you’d expect: It helps with those uncomfortable stabs you may feel during your time of the month, according to Koczaja. Koczaja also recommends Vitex chaste teaberry, an herb that helps balance hormones.

It is best when a professional can help you find the right herb. Allergies

Spring brings sunshine, flowers, warm weather….. and allergies. Koczaja recommends astragalus, as it can help aid in alleviating allergy symptoms and in boosting one’s immune system.
