P.Volve: A New Approach to Fitness

Workout trends are as relevant as fashion trends in today’s society. All over the internet, influencers are seen doing the “it” workout, which includes exercises ranging from exhausting HIIT workouts to gentler exercises such as barre or yoga.

P.volve is an exercise regimen that takes a unique, “pre-hab” approach to fitness using physical therapy techniques to activate and strengthen muscles. A pre-hab approach means proactively preventing injury by correcting muscle imbalances and poor posture, which many of us suffer from by sitting at desks all day. This approach focuses on proper muscle activation and engagement to improve strength and stability.

Stephen Pasterino, founder of the New York City-based fitness studio and global online streaming service, created this exercise method when women came to him feeling upset that they were doing intense workouts and not seeing the results they desired.

“That pain you feel during intense workouts is your body signaling that its muscles are breaking down, causing them to get larger as they rebuild. The results are heavy bulking, which is often the opposite of the desired effect,” said Pasterino, who is also known as P, on his website.

The P.volve approach utilizes deliberate, purposeful movements and emphasizes proper form to maximize muscle activation for a big visual impact. A main focus is on gluteal muscles – and not just because everyone wants a round, perky butt. The gluteus maximus is one of the largest and strongest muscles in our bodies. It controls muscular function from our spine all the way down to our lower legs. Therefore to tone your abs, thighs and many other muscle groups, you must first condition your butt.

P.volve has an A-List following, including models such as Blanca Padilla and Devon Windsor, who train with P to bring out what he likes to call the “runway muscles.” Other celebs, including Helen Owen and Ashley Laconetti, also follow the P.volve routine.

For those of us who cannot get to the studio, P.volve offers an online streaming service with a library of a hundred workouts that can be filtered based on the amount of time and equipment you have, and the area you want to focus on. Pasterino has a whole line of equipment, ranging from ankle bands to gliders to his scientifically designed P.ball. He spent months in a lab perfecting this ball that goes in between your thighs during workouts to slim your inner thighs and tone your lower butt.

A great way to get a feel for a program is to stream the “30 Day Challenge.” This challenge rotates between three different workouts so you can get used to the types of moves featured in his program. In addition to single streaming videos, Pasterino created express programs which are 15 to 20 minute videos that focus on specific areas, such as thighs or arms. These are great for days where you want to squeeze a quick workout in.

This streaming service is especially great for college students due to the fact that it can be done anywhere at any time. It is convenient for busy girls who are trying to get that workout in. P.volve offers a special discount for college students to stream for $19.99-per-month (normally $29.99-per-month) and a 20 percent discount off all equipment!

One streamer, Melanie Sikma, said, “I love how it’s easy to do at home and how helpful P is.” P is very interactive throughout the videos. He gives tips on how to perfect your form and fix mistakes he commonly sees in his studio to make sure streamers are getting the most out of their workouts.

P.volve also has a blog where you can find posts on a variety of topics, such as how to get over hangovers (either from food or alcohol), how to stay healthy in college and how to eat seasonally. Pasterino even created a nutrition plan to supplement his fitness program that will be released soon! To learn more about P.volve, check out this podcast from The Skinny Confidential.
