Most of the world is over a month into quarantine and boredom has officially set in. For those who love both fashion and TV, your spare time can be filled by bingeing some classic fashion television. Check out our favorites with the list below!
PAQ (Available on YouTube)
This show stands out from the others because of its platform and focus. “PAQ” is an English web series on YouTube created by Kyra TV. Four friends—Danny, Dex, Elias and Shaq—compete in weekly outfit challenges. Most fashion shows focus on womenswear and designing, but “PAQ” is different because its focal point is on styling and menswear. From shopping for celebrities such as Madison Beer to creating an entire outfit from Depop with only £50 (equal to $61.61), this show does it all. At the end of each episode, the guys compete to see who has the best “fit”, which is voted on by a guest judge. There are over 100 videos on the channel, both episodes and vlogs, which makes for great binge-able content!
Project Runway: All Stars (Available on Hulu)
A spin-off of the classic show led by Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn, this version, judged and hosted by Alyssa Milano, showcases previous “Project Runway” designers who didn’t win their seasons. The show’s last season aired in late 2018 and was their most diverse. Instead of choosing designers from the American version of “Project Runway,” contestants were chosen from international editions, which added depth to the series. The winner received a $100,000 prize and a spread in “Marie Claire,” in addition to a host of other prizes. Reality TV drama aside, there are beautiful moments in this show, inside and outside of fashion.
Project Runway: Junior (Available on Prime Video)
Another “Project Runway” spin-off, this series focuses on young designers from around the country. It has the same set up as the original, but with more relatable challenges for the designers. The show was a valuable platform for young creatives and broadcasted the future of fashion. Many of the designers have gone on to start their own brands, perfectly exemplifying how this show helped them become who they are today!
Making a Model with Yolanda Hadid (Available on Hulu)
“Making a Model with Yolanda Hadid” is another competition show, this time hosted by the former model and mother of Gigi and Bella Hadid. Five teenage girls—and their mothers—move to a house in New York City to compete on the show, vying for a contract with Yolanda Hadid and the opportunity to be represented by IMG. The girls have eight weekly competitions that put their modeling skills to the test. Think of Dance Moms, but with catwalks instead of stages. “Making a Model” shows a different side of fashion through a modern lens and its one season is a great way to fill time throughout the week.
Styling Hollywood (Available on Netflix)
This Netflix original shows the careers of husbands Jason Bolden and Adair Curtis, who run JSN Studio, a celebrity styling and interior design business. Another styling-focused series, “Styling Hollywood” lets viewers in on the behind-the-scenes moments. The hours leading up to red carpets, finding last minute pieces, dealing with the stresses of managing employees and hectic Los Angeles all combine on this show. Along with styling, seeing the process and planning of their interior designs is an added bonus.
Next in Fashion (Available on Netflix)
Another Netflix original, this show is hosted by stylist Tan France and writer/fashion designer Alexa Chung. This show has a unique format, starting out with established and amateur designers from around the world, and pairing them in teams for almost half of the season. The series strays away from the “Project Runway” model through the freedom it gives the designers. There are no timed and budgeted trips to Mood Fabrics, but instead lovely walls of varying materials with the opportunity to request more. “Next in Fashion” blossoms as a new iteration of an old model, and gives designers from different fashion backgrounds a place to show their talent.
Whatever aspect of the fashion industry is your favorite, there is a show for it on this list. Most of these are either on streaming services or YouTube, which makes for a convenient watch! In between the stress of online classes and life in general, watching TV can be a great way to wind down and learn more about something you love.
