With Halloween right around the corner, it is prime time for you and your “boo” to find the trendiest couple costumes! Here are some trends for this Halloween as well as ideas from students at the University of Maryland that will send chills down your spine.

Nerds

Are you smarter than a fifth grader? These sophomores put their brains to the test to see who could be the ultimate nerd! Government and politics major Natalie Seablom, computer science major Matt Island and Nadia Jaouad, a business marketing major, put on their thinking caps to create these simple yet cute costumes. You can repurpose some of your own clothes for this costume or borrow from a friend!

“This is a good low-budget costume for college students,” Jaouad said, “I just used everything but the fishnet tights from what I already had in my closet.”

To add extra spirit to this costume, you can find nerd accessories at Party City. Check them out here.

VSCO Girl and Jock

Be the most trendy type of person this Halloween as a VSCO girl with her jock! Grab your comfiest oversized tee and reusable water bottle to create this look. This ultimate dream-team idea will have your friends saying “and I oop-” all night long! Create this look with most items already in your closet or from your friends. Sophomore government and politics major Emily Froman put together her VSCO look for this Halloween. So layer on the scrunchies and practice your best “sksksksksks.”

Frat Boy and a Natty Light

“It’s a match made in heaven,” said sophomore computer science major Spencer Varzandeh, “or more of a match in a frat basement.”

Need inspiration for a frat boy costume? Take a seat on the mall and observe for a day, and you should get an idea: Sperrys, Nike socks, khaki shorts and a button-up shirt. Find the steps for a DIY beer can costume here.

Shark and Diver

Fifth-year economics major Al Wasden and sophomore public policy major Izzy Carroll have a less traditional idea for their Halloween.

“A diver and a shark was our idea,” Carroll said, “And I was going to fake cut my arm off.” Fake blood would be a great addition to this idea! Find it for under $10 on Amazon!

Star Wars

What’s more iconic and classic than a Star Wars inspired costume? Senior economics major Miranda Alam and University of Maryland alumnus William Parks pulled out their blasters and dressed up as Princess Leia and Han Solo last year with a mission to defeat the empire!
