Get Lucky With These St. Patrick’s Day Styles

Whether you choose to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by partying with friends, grabbing brunch with family, attending a parade or just doing nothing at all, it is vital to dress the part. Sure, there are only a handful of people left who still celebrate the holiday in a more traditional way by indulging in Irish foods or remembering St. Patrick. More commonly, the holiday has been used in the United States as purely an excuse to celebrate. With the holiday falling on a Sunday this year, the options for how to spend it are endless, and so too are the outfits.

In order to properly find some St. Paddy’s Day outfit inspiration, I dragged my friends along with me to Georgetown to scour the stores for the perfect outfits for any event. With arguably some of the best brand-name shopping in Washington, D.C. only a few metro stops away, Georgetown shops allow you to dress your best this St. Patrick’s Day.

Pants: Urban Outfitters- BDG Mom Jean- Black + White Stripe

Belt Bag: & Other Stories- Leather Belt Bag

There’s no denying that St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday typically celebrated with large amounts of alcohol and partying in the United States. This outfit is perfect for that mid-day bar crawl around College Park or D.C. A great and super cozy trend for coats this year has been the fluffy teddy jackets, seen above in a rich forest green. This jacket works well because it can be paired with the delicate lace bralette and still be warm and season-appropriate.

Whitney Ingram, manager of Free People in Georgetown, suggests layering the bralette with a jacket or cardigan to make the outfit work for early spring temperatures.

My friends and I styled this look with a pair of Urban Outfitter striped jeans. Statement jeans like these look great with solid colored clothing and create texture in an outfit. The best part is, these jeans will continue to thrive after the holiday festivities end.

To store all of your bar crawl essentials, we chose a dark green leather belt bag. Kendall Jenner, a modern day fashion icon, styles it in a more traditional way around the waist, as well as diagonally like a cross body bag.

While the outfit features many green pieces, the muted tones keep it classy and refined, Ingram explained to us.

“I like this outfit because it is something that is cute but still sensible for March and I would definitely wear it,” freshman government and politics major Alicia Goodwin said.

Jacket (again): Urban Outfitters- UO Dolman Teddy Jacket

Bag: Urban Outfitters- Square Clear Mini Tote Bag

Bike shorts: Urban Outfitters- Motel Leopard Print Bike Short

This outfit is perfect for conforming to the hectic nature of parades. With comfy spandex bike shorts, a basic festive t-shirt and another use for that teddy jacket, this outfit is wearable and very on trend. Clear bags of all sizes are a tricky but cute trend. While it’s difficult to store all of your purse essentials in this bag without revealing to the world just how many gum wrappers you have roaming around the bottom of your bag, it is still possible to style it in a chic way. Don’t believe me? Many celebrities have mastered the look, including fashion blogger Danielle Bernstein and director of fashion partnerships at Instagram, Eva Chen.

Although we didn’t find this specific pair of bike shorts while out shopping, Ingram suggested including them in an outfit as they are very on trend this season. While they are a bit unique, the Kardashians certainly post enough photos in these shorts to get the public used to the quirky piece.

To mainstream this look a little more, try tying the shirt at the waist and layering the teddy jacket on top to create an interesting, yet fashion forward proportion.

For when you don’t want to be the ONE person not wearing green

This outfit could really work for any occasion, but the strong emphasis on green certainly screams St. Patrick’s Day. If you don’t want to be recognized as the only person not participating in the holiday, this outfit will fit the theme discreetly and fashionably.

“I’m really into patterned pants and plain color tops, so I think it would be cute for hanging with friends or maybe a day in the city,” Goodwin said.

So whether you’re spending St. Patrick’s Day at a bar crawl, parade or just hanging around, crafting the perfect outfit just got a whole lot easier.
