Jordan Bryant embodies individuality in every way. In a sea full of college students sporting sweatpants and sweatshirts on the daily, you can catch Bryant rocking bold thrift shop pieces that feature an assortment of bright colors and extravagant patterns. When I first met Bryant, I was drawn to her unique sense of style and her ability to pair unconventional pieces to create a put together outfit. On the day we met, her outfit consisted of a red tie-front shirt and a pair of classy loose cropped pants, which put my outfit of leggings and a red Maryland sweatshirt to shame. Her love and passion for fashion led her to join the student run organization, MasTERPiece, where she currently serves as club president.

MasTERPiece is a fashion and business club at the University of Maryland. According to the club’s Instagram bio, they are “the only fashion and business organization at UMD.” Bryant explained that MasTERPiece is a club that “educates students about the intersection between fashion and business.” She mentioned that the club serves as a platform for students, allowing them to learn more about the fashion business through various networking events while exploring their creativity and personal style.

Bryant is currently a sophomore marketing major at the university. She is thinking of pursuing a career in the fashion-business industry and her role with MasTERPiece has strongly shaped her desired career path and affirmed her interests in both industries.

The club is known for the fashion shows they put together. These fashion shows are similar to the ones put together for professional fashion events, like New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week. They feature student models wearing special pieces created by students or local designers. In the spring of 2017, the club put together a UMD fashion show called “URBAN FLEUR,” which featured bohemian pieces and rosy color palettes, giving the entire show an ethereal vibe. Their most recent fashion show was a spin on Kanye West’s “Yeezy SZN 3” and featured earthy tones with a lot of camo print.

Scrolling through MasTERPiece’s official Instagram profile makes it clear that the club emphasizes creativity and individuality above all. Their whole page embodies this idea, and each post features its members and student models effortlessly posing and rocking a vast array of outfits.

Bryant is featured on the page in multiple posts, all of which highlights her confidence, spunk and unapologetic fashion sense. One post features a polaroid photo taken of her. In it, she’s wearing what looks like a tight black crop top underneath tan overalls and a baby pink, short sleeved cropped sweater. A second photo highlights a more casual outfit, which consists of denim bottoms, a Beatles inspired Charlie Brown graphic tee and a green fuzz jacket. Her colorful pink and blonde hair compliments the outfit with a dash of color. Bryant’s personal Instagram account further showcases her artistry, with 56 posts that display her perfectly-crafted outfits and bold makeup skills.

This semester, the club is looking to organize a clothing swap along with a pop-up shop.

“We’re trying to stick more with our theme of sustainability,” said Bryant. She mentioned that the clothing swap will allow for students to “trade in old clothes for nice new clothes,” while the pop-up shop will allow for both student and local designers to “showcase their work.”

MasTERPiece will be having its first official meeting on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. in Van Munching Hall room 1411.
