Know the Best Self-Tanners

With the semester coming to a close and finals looming on the horizon, we tend to lock ourselves away in the library to study for hours on end. So, by the time summer arrives, you’re looking pale, tired and in need of a vacation.

The quickest solution is to use a fake tanner so you look sun-kissed and ready for the summer break.

Here are some of the best brands to try if you’re looking for an easy self-tan this summer.

St. Tropez

St. Tropez seems to be a fan-favorite among college students.

“I get compliments that it looks really natural,” said Becca Delaney, a junior special education major.

St. Tropez is a green-tinted foam that is simple to apply and won’t leave you looking orange.

“I usually put it on before bed then wake up and shower it off,” Delaney said.

“It’s super easy to use and usually doesn’t come out streaky,” added Ruby Krauss, a sophomore community health major.

St. Tropez is a pricier tan compared to most drugstore alternatives, but the cost is worth it. You can buy it at Sephora for $32.

Tan Towel

If you’re looking for a quick and easy application, Tan Towel is the brand for you. The tan towels come in small packs, similar to makeup wipes, and they are also super easy to use.

“As long as you exfoliate, you’ll have a nice streak-free tan,” said Mary Leah Corlett, a senior information systems major.

You can buy Tan Towel at Ulta Beauty for $29.

Jergens

Jergens Natural Glow Moisturizer is the best option if you’re looking to try out a fake tan for the first time and want to pick up something cheap from a drugstore. Jergens is perfect if you want just a little more color because it builds up over multiple uses, so you can control how tan you want it to be.

“Jergens makes my skin so soft and gives me a little bit of color and confidence,” said Ellie Isleib, a freshman special education major. “And, it smells great!”

Pick up Jergens lotion at CVS or on Amazon for $8.49.

Rodan + Fields

A personal favorite, Rodan + Fields Essentials Foaming Sunless Tan is a foaming self-tan that dries quickly and shows results within the first day. Drugstore brands like Jergens lotion take longer to build up over a week or so, but after just two days of applying Rodan + Fields, I saw great results.

The downside to Rodan + Fields’ tanner is that you have to be very careful to cover every spot you want to be tan. Since it darkens within the first day or so, you only get one chance to make sure everything will be even.

You can get Rodan + Fields foaming tan for $27 on their website.
