The Art of a Statement Piece

Often, we feel like an outfit is just one step away from being complete. This step can easily be taken with statement jewelry. When it comes to statement jewelry, people either love it or hate it. Celebrities like Lady Gaga and Katy Perry tend to go over-the-top when layering statement pieces, while non-celebs often keep it a bit more simple. Here are some fun ways to add statement jewelry to your wardrobe.

Necklaces are one of the most popular options when it comes to statement jewelry. As there are so many different types, you’re bound to find one that fits your personal style.

Karen Foster, who works at Francesca's in Annapolis, recommends finding statement necklaces that you really love.

“It’s easier to pair jewelry with outfits when you love what you own,” Foster said. “You won’t feel confident in something you hate.”

Fun Earrings

Another popular piece of statement jewelry are earrings. If you prefer smaller earrings, pick unique studs that have a color or pattern that stands out. For those who aren’t afraid to go big, there are plenty of styles to choose from, ranging from dangles to hoops and everywhere in between.

When it comes to earrings, you have to be careful with which types you choose to buy. Many people are allergic to the metal in cheaper earrings, so be on the lookout for quality options within your budget.

Chunky Bracelets

From big bangles to dainty details, a statement bracelet can be the key to completing an outfit. Many stores sell statement bracelets of all different styles that will easily match a simple outfit and turn it into something brighter. Look at places such as Francesca's, Free People, Charming Charlies or even thrift stores for pieces that spark joy in you.

Henrie Losh, a Zara employee from Washington, D.C., recommends stacking statement bracelets with smaller bracelets.

“Bracelet stacking is such a fun way to add to an outfit,” Losh said. “If you want to kick your style up a notch, that’s how I’d do it.”

Statement pieces are meant to do exactly what you think: make a statement. So add a couple pieces that you love to your wardrobe, wear them with confidence and don’t be afraid to stand out.
