How To Elevate Your Springtime Makeup Routine

When you open Instagram in 2019, you see girls who transform their faces with contour and different products to make themselves look so beautiful, they almost look fake. Not everyone can incorporate this effort into their daily routine, and there’s always a rush to get your day going, even before a detailed makeup routine. Spring is a busy time for everyone, especially in college, so an easy and classic look is a better choice when delegating your time and making your look elegant.

I interviewed makeup artist Morgan Chandler, and she agreed that staying away from gaudy colorful makeup is definitely the thing to do, but said that you can still incorporate a fun color, like gold, into your look. Gold is pretty and striking while still elegant.

The pictured look is a bold one. A glowy look with blended shadow is the perfect choice for spring. If you struggle with making both eyes identical when doing liner, Real Simple’s article, “How to do Winged Eyeliner Like a Pro,” is helpful in explaining how to execute this popular trend.

When the weather starts to get warmer and you’re moving around all day, your makeup can undergo some wear and tear. An essential item to prevent smearing is setting spray. My favorite is Urban Decay’s “All Nighter.” Chandler agreed that it’s the best setting spray out there and it’s extremely well-rated. Cosmopolitan did an article on the best setting sprays of 2019, and the reporter, Victoria Jowett, stated: "I can't even begin to explain how much this single product has changed my life, honestly it's beyond amazing,” and ranked the spray 10/10.

For most people, really bright colors are hard to work with because the pigment is so rich, and not everyone is a flawless blender. Working with natural colors will be faster, easier and more likely to execute a softer look for the springtime, and gold adds a kick that can transfer easily to nighttime. Remember, don’t forget your setting spray!
