A Terp's Favorite Trends
With the fun and excitement of a new school year comes catching up with friends, checking out your new classes, tailgating and cheering on the football team, and celebrating the weekend by going out with your squad! With so much happening, everyone is pulling out their A-games to dress their best and follow the latest styles. Being back at school for a while now, I’ve seen some super cute, common trends have been prominent this season.
With the football games and tailgates, everyone has been on the hunt for the coolest UMD apparel! There has been tons of popular pieces to wear this fall, including laced up shirts, Maryland flag bandeaus, cheer skirts, and one strapped denim overalls. If you are looking for a cute, spirited look, try some of these popular looks from ByGabby.com and homemade from Etsy. You can even look up tutorials on how to make your own lace-up shirt or distressed tee from a basic Maryland shirt you find in the bookstore. The University Shop on Route 1 carries Maryland flag bandeaus - but they sell out quick!
When going out on the weekends - whether it’s to bars, frat parties, or darties - almost every girl has a few go-to staples in their closet. These include ripped jeans, lace-up skirts, and the beloved bodysuit. Bodysuits have been a staple all summer, and with the change of season, there are new bodysuit styles coming out for the fall. One favorite at UMD is definitely the plunging v-neck suits with a choker attached. The go-to look on the weekends seem to be pairing your favorite bodysuit with a skirt and wedges, a perfect outfit for a night out with the girls. On nights that are too chilly for your favorite skirt, ripped jeans paired with black fishnets have been a popular and edgy night look seen along Route 1. The best places to look for these popular trends are Forever 21, H&M, and Urban Outfitters!
When Monday morning comes around, the fun of tailgates and parties is replaced with the dread of having to walk and sit through all of your classes. The key word UMD girls have in mind as they pick out an outfit for class is “comfort.” Walking around campus, you see a wide range of styles from sweatpants and a messy bun, to t-shirt dresses paired with a denim jacket. Another popular trend that a lot of girls enjoy is athleisure, making it easy to hit the gym later and making it comfy to walk from one end of campus to the other. Some popular trends in activewear include cutout and mesh leggings and sleeveless sweaters! Cut out leggings not only let your legs breath while speed walking to your 10 am class that you will most definitely be late for but also make you look effortless. Sleeveless and cropped hoodies are a popular trend this fall that quite a few UMD girls have been sporting, which can be found at Forever 21, Victoria's Secret, and even Nike.
Living on such a big campus, there are so many stylish and unique looks going on, along with so many exciting events happening! Our time at UMD goes quickly which means the famous quote, “Life is too short to wear boring clothes” could not apply to a better school with so many events and so many outfits to wear.
